Американские граждане кубинского происхождения. После прихода Ф. Кастро к власти в 1959 тысячи беженцев нелегально покинули Кубу; большинство поселилось на юге Флориды, ставшей центром оппозиции режиму Ф. Кастро. Там расположились штаб-квартиры политических организаций и военно-тренировочные лагеря ("Омега-7" [Omega 7]). Отсюда в 1961 ЦРУ [Central Intelligence Agency] организовало вторжение на Плайя-Хирон [Bay of Pigs Invasion]. В конце 1970-х годов кубинские власти дали разрешение на эмиграцию. В апреле-июне 1980 более 125 тыс. человек прибыли в США [Cuban boatlift]; большинство из них попали в наскоро построенные лагеря. Среди беженцев было немало преступников, выпущенных из тюрем. В 1984 США и Куба достигли соглашения о возвращении 2746 преступников и психически больных на Кубу. Кубинцы продолжают играть существенную роль в политической жизни и экономике Флориды. Они составляют более половины населения официально двуязычного г. Майами, где выходят газеты, работают телевидение и радио на испанском языке, рассчитанные на прием на Кубе [Radio Marti]. Многие кубинцы также живут в Пуэрто-Рико, г. Нью-Йорке и на северо-востоке шт. Нью-Джерси.
